Ymer Marinus is an artist who delves into the mysteries of human connection with (digital) technology. They believe that invisible tech should not be feared but examined, dissected, and re-experienced in a new, raw form. Their work aligns with hacking ideology, focusing on reclaiming and repurposing technologies to uncover underlying power structures and discomfort. This discomfort often arises from systemic issues such as the pursuit of capturing attention, reinforcing hidden biases, or prioritizing endless profit. Ymer sees technologies as politicized tools that reflect broader societal forces but also as opportunities for transformation. By taking them apart, reassembling them, or chaining them together in different ways, deeper truths can be revealed and more meaningfull experiences can be uncovered.

Ymer is also a founding member of the art-meets-tech collective Telemagic, collaborating with Cyanne van den Houten and Roos Groothuizen. Their work embraces technological mysteries, creating tangible experiences to foster human connection with digital developments. With a background in audio engineering, Ymer operates from two creative spaces: QTHQ a sound studio based in Amsterdam and ZIP in Rotterdam. QTHQ is a studio focused on sonics and vibrotactile experiences, while ZIP explores digital culture and queer hacking practices.
